Berklee News, New Shows, Saxes and MPCs
Posted on Feb 10, 2011

What's up everyone,

Just wanted to update you all since I haven't posted in a while!  Things are extremely busy at Berklee; I'm now playing with several bands, including the Crossover Kidz/Postwar Graduates, J. Hoard and SOS, Reverend and the Jew, Bianelys Javier, and a couple other projects currently in the works.

With all those new bands comes several new shows - check out the site at http://www.calehawkins.com/shows for all the information on gigs!  Some upcoming shows include All Asia in Cambridge, Club Church in Boston near Fenway Park, and a gig all the way out in Phoenix, AZ.

Also, my good friend Philippe Edison just put out a mixtape called "Saxes and MPCs" that features some great remixes and original alt hip-hop/jazz tracks.  I played guitar and bass on the track "For the Ummah."

If you'd like to check it out, the mixtape is available for free at http://philippeedison.bandcamp.com/.

John Legend Remix
Posted on Jan 19, 2011

What's up everyone!

I just did a remix for a John Legend track and entered it into a music contest being run by Indaba Music.

The top 20 remixes at the end of voting get critiqued by John Legend himself, and I would love to have that opportunity!  In order to do that, I need help from everyone to get some votes and get my mix into one of the top 20 spots.

All you have to do is:

1. Click on the link below.

2. Click "Vote".

3. Enter your e-mail address (you can uncheck the check-box below so Indaba Music doesn't contact you).

Thanks in advance for your support!  This could be a really great opportunity so I would really appreciate it if you all could vote!

1st Semester Complete!
Posted on Jan 05, 2011

What's up everyone, all apologies for the lack of updates on my site!  I've been EXTREMELY busy with my studies at Berklee but I'm finally done with my first semester and it's good to be on break.

A lot has happened since I last posted; gigs are flowing in pretty steadily in the Boston area.  More details will be posted soon on the shows section of the website.  I also no longer have my radio gig with the BIRN (Berklee Internet Radio Network); it was a great experience but I had to leave due to time constraints.

I am also now teaming up with producer and Berklee alum Philippe Edison and we're going to be coming out with some tracks in the near future... stay tuned!

I've also been steadily releasing beats, and the latest ones can be heard at http://www.youtube.com/calehawkins

Be sure to check back often because I'll be adding a lot of new stuff to the site during the upcoming year!  Happy 2011, and keep the music playing!

Cale Hawkins on the BIRN
Posted on Oct 21, 2010

Hello everyone, I just wanted to update you all on the status of my show at the BIRN (Berklee Internet Radio Network).

I am no longer DJ-ing on the This is Now: Late Morning Edition show from 10-11am on Saturdays - I now have my own show from 9-11pm EST on Saturday nights!

The show is called Chopped and Scratched and will play a mix of soul, jazz, and hip-hop.  The main purpose of the show is to explain how jazz and soul classics are sampled in hip-hop music, by playing a jazz or soul track and then a hip-hop song that sampled that track.

I hope you all can tune in, and hope you enjoy the show!
